Wow. What a week! Lots of happenings around Bertschire.
So we really had 9 dogs entered when you count Debbie Martin's Phoenix (Debbie entered her, we took her). Saturday had an entry of 50 flatcoats, the most of any other breed in the show! The morning started with puppy and veteran sweepstakes; we had 3 puppies entered and Dutch and Madison in veteran's.
We started out well in puppy sweeps. Tim Pullian and Sky (Montana x Amos) won the 6-9 bitch class, with Quiz nipping at their heels. Our next entry was Bravo, and she was the only one in her class, as was Drum. However, the real fun began in the best in sweeps ring, where Bravo was named best puppy and Drum was named best of opposite sex!
Dutch came in second in his veteran class, and Madison won her class; however neither went on from there. It was fun to see them both out again, as neither had been shown since last year's specialty.
Now comes the regular classes. Sky and Quiz repeated their 1-2 performance (4 in their class), as did Drum. Bravo was shown in bred-by-exhibitor and placed 2nd in a very strong class, then went on to Reserve behind a really lovely bitch owned by our friend Janet Olsen. Grace won her class, as did Bo. Nickel was the only entry in working bitch, and Dutch was also the only entry in the field trial dog class. Debbie Martin's Phoenix earned a very respectable 3rd in the Open bitch class.
We also got to see one of Power's pups again - we had not seen Thor since last year either. He looked great and also won his class, as did Koa, the only entry in his class. We did not manage to win anything in Winners Dog, but were very proud of the Bertschire dogs in the lineup.
Finally, the HUGE Best of Breed lined up, completely filling the ring. Dutch, Nickel and Power represented us there, and Dutch made it all the way to the final cut. Power came in as 2nd best male, with a Judge's Award of Merit, a very fine win!
On Sunday, we only entered 3 dogs: Bravo, Bo and Power. Bravo was again 2nd in the bred-by-class and again went on to reserve - behind Janet again! Bo won the bred-by dog class and advanced to winner's dog for his 2nd major! That's as much as we won this weekend, but we were extremely pleased with the results.
One more show weekend for us this year, then on to the national specialty!
I'm going to rest now....
